The board of Macquarie Home Stay are committed to expanding our accommodation facility in line with the demand and needs of patients. To this end, the masterplan of our facility has been developed so that as the patient demand grows, so too can our accommodation precincts.
26 units to support patients and their carers when attending the Western Cancer Centre
14 units with shared common room incl kitchen living and dining spaces and laundry
An area where our guest can check in, where we can provide the clerical support for IPTAAS claims etc, a waiting area for guests accessing community transport and taxis, additional space for our administration team, storage and houskeeping supplies and needs
Further accommodation areas of another 90+ units can be provided if the demand exists.
The NSW Government recognized the importance of our expansion, and in January 2023 announced a funding contribution of $2,500,000 towards stage 2. This funding, along with existing donations, sponsorship, pledges and borrowings saw construction commence in January 2024, with an expected completion by late 2024.
The expansion to include the family units, general patient units and office are a priority as we continue to turn away over 3 patients a day due to being fully booked out. Sadly, some days we can turn away over 14 patients needing urgent accommodation. Through the support of private donors, business, other charitable organisation’s and philanthropic support, with sponsorship and grants, we are working to fully fund the addition of these 19 units as a matter or urgency. Each area has unique design characteristics that support different patient groups and treatment types and we welcome the opportunity to discuss how anyone can support us as we work to becoming fully subscribed and bring each of these stages online.
