Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who is Macquarie Home Stay?

We specialise in providing affordable and appropriate accommodation for people travelling from regional and remote NSW who are accessing medical services in Dubbo. We are also a registered charity with the ACNC.

  • How do I make a booking?

Either give us a ring or send us an enquiry through the say hello section. We can then discuss what you need, how long for, talk through the cost and IPTAAS.

  • I’ve arrived in Dubbo unexpectedly and I need a room - can I book a room after hours?

If we have availability, we can help you access rooms after hours. Give us a ring and we can talk through availability and the checkin process.

  • What does it cost to stay there?

There are a few answers to this. That’s why we like to talk to you first so we can give you the best advice. The cost will depend on whether you qualify for IPTAAS, how many nights you are staying for, how many people are staying and so on. Depending on your medical treatment, you may ask for or qualify for financial support through a third party organisation and we can help you with that too.

  • How far from the hospital are you?

800m. Many guests walk to Dubbo Hospital. Some drive, others catch a taxi while some access patient transport.

  • What is IPTAAS?

It is a NSW Government scheme established to provide patients travel and accommodation assistance. The majority of our guest access this subsidy, and it is for a patient and/or their carer. www.iptaas.health.nsw.gov.au

  • What time can I check in?

Officially, check in is from 2pm and checkout is by 10am. If you need an early check in or late departure please discuss that with our team as we understand that sometimes you need access to your room outside these times.

  • What’s the criteria to stay with you?

If you are in Dubbo for a medical reason, then yes you are able to stay with us. There is no restrictions on how far you have had to travel, if you qualify for IPTAAS or not or what the medical purpose is. For some surgeries, the hospital will require you to have a carer stay with you on the night of the surgery, we do not provide 24 hour care. All guests must be able to self care and manage daily activities without assistance or have the support of a responsible carer.

  • Do I share a bathroom?

No, each room has its own ensuite bathroom.

  • Do you have any steps?

Simply answered no. We do have a mixture of fully accessible rooms including an appropriately fitted out bathroom, some rooms have a bathroom with a shower curtain so it’s easier with a shower chair or the like and other rooms have a standard shower screen. Flat access from the carpark onto the verandahs and into the common areas is available to all guests.

  • Can I have visitors when staying at Macquarie Home Stay?

You are most welcome to have family and friends come and visit. Share a meal or a cuppa, use the communal living areas or go for a walk around our parkland spaces
