The initial impetus for this project came from Dawn Fardell MP, Independent Member for Dubbo, in 2010/11 seeking accommodation solutions for women coming to Dubbo to await childbirth. Various options were explored and found unsuitable.
Meeting called by Elizabeth Allen, then Chair of Dubbo Health Council, to support development of short-term on-site accommodation for Dubbo Base Hospital (DBH) sub-acute patients and their carers. Particularly for people beyond Dubbo Local Government Area (LGA), other areas besides maternity identified as requiring the facility. Over 50% of DBH’s clients are from beyond Dubbo LGA
Formation of a Steering Committee
Dubbo Base Hospital Accommodation Project (DBHAP) Incorporated was established. Many meetings were held in the lead up to incorporation with health personnel and others to determine parameters of project, requirements, possible location of accommodation facility on hospital site, style of accommodation, relationship with hospital, etc
First fundraiser held, Real Estate Institute - Orana Division Charity Auction contributed proceeds to DBHAP Inc
